M2M (machine to machine) solution refers to communication between two or more devices without human intervention. It is a process in which devices communicate and exchange information to accomplish specific tasks. Devices using M2M can be integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) systems that process data from the devices and draw conclusions from it.
M2M solutions are used in telecommunications to remotely monitor and manage devices such as using control algorithms to optimize energy consumption or use of industrial machinery, sensors, medical devices, automobiles or IoT (Internet of Things) devices. With M2M communications, devices can transmit data, such as telemetry data, device status information, measurement results or location.
In the case of IoT systems, this data can be processed by machine learning algorithms to automatically detect anomalies in the operation of equipment or to predict its failure. It is also possible to use artificial intelligence to optimize processes, such as using control algorithms to optimize energy consumption or optimize the use of industrial machinery.
The M2M solution will successfully improve operations in areas such as manufacturing plants – for monitoring the progress of production processes, inventory or supply chain control. The M2M concept is equally relevant from the perspective of public applications such as intelligent motion control or remote control. It is expected that the machine to machine solution will in time be implemented as support in, for example, telemedicine or education.
